Who Am I? Hello readers. My name is Alex Fong! I am 19 years old and I am currently a student at George Brown enrolled in the Culinary Management Program. Cooking has always been a huge interest of mine as I always loved watching my dad cook time after time. With this experience I have been given, I hope to learn all the inside and outside work there is in the food industry. I want to learn how to run a restaurant as well as cook a vast variety of dishes across all ethnicities.
What Is My Purpose?
For a long time now, I was always fascinated with all the aspects of cooking. From where it originated to the final touches of the dinner plate, I have always been curious to know more. This is the reason for why I aspire to be a chef. I love all sorts of food and I wish to know everything about them. Cooking is not only a science, but an art form as well. Cooking is an endless tunnel of knowledge as you learn something new everyday and I want to feel that experience for the rest of my life.
Job Experiences Currently, I just started working at Smith Bros. Steakhouse and Tavern with the help of a friend! He recommended me to the manager and he had agreed to hire me which I am extremely grateful for. I currently am learning all the ropes for the appetizer station which not only includes appetizers, but desserts as well! I just recently started and I am still training, but I am excited for what is yet to come!
What is My Motto? What I believe in most is to try everything. I grew up as a picky eater because I thought foods that are looked bad tasted bad as well. As I grew up, I realized that you cannot judge food based on looks alone and I began to try everything even though some of the dishes contained ingredients I'm not fond of. If you try it and like it? Great! If you try it and hate it? Don't eat it again. Doing this allows you to expand your palette as you try new foods.
