My Ideal Butchery For my local butchery, I had decided to choose T&T Supermarket located at Warden Ave. and Steeles Ave. E.
My Meat of Choice? I had decided to choose this supermarket due to its large store, countless variety in items, and most importantly, its vast meat section. My choice of meat would be a chicken leg. One of the most important things that I enjoy buying chicken from T&T is their guarantee of antibiotic free chicken.
Why Choose This Piece? There are many things I love about the chicken leg. A chicken leg is comprised of "dark meat", which has more fat within the meat compared to a chicken breast or "white meat". A chicken leg has loads of flavour built into the meat and doesn't require as much support compared to white meat. A chicken leg can be pan fried or roasted while remaining moist and tender, while braising and slow cooking will just make it drop dead tender!
What To Look Out For When it comes to chicken legs and purchasing them at your local grocery store, the most obvious would be discolouration. Black or dark coloured chicken is a sign of bad meat. Also, the texture, ripped skin, and feather could be a sign of poorly handled and old chicken. The picture on the left below shows chicken showing signs of discolouration, while on the right it shows a nice, pink chicken.
